What are some Mother’s Day Celebrations and Traditions?

Mother’s Day celebrations differ all around the world, depending on the traditions and cultures of the country. In Thailand, for example, Mother’s Day is always celebrated in August on the birthday of the current queen, Sirikit. In Ethiopia families all gather together to sing songs and eat a large feast called Antrosht, which consists of a couple of days of honouring mothers and motherhood.

In the United States, Mother’s Day continues to be celebrated by presenting moms with gifts and flowers. Amazingly it has become one of the biggest holidays for consumer spending! Families in the US also celebrate this day by giving mom the day off, which she certainly deserves. At times Mother’s Day has also been a date for launching political or feminist causes. In 1968 Coretta Scott King, wife of Martin Luther King Jr., used Mother’s Day to host a march in support of underprivileged women and children. In the 1970s women’s groups also used the holiday as a time to highlight the need for equal rights and access to childcare. How interesting!

Easter-flowers-tulipsHere in India, we celebrate Mother’s Day due to all the emotions that are attached to the festival…love, respect and appreciation. We reflect on the importance of those special ladies in our lives and reflect on how mom’s looked after us when we were sick, the hardships she endured while bringing us up and all the sacrifices our mother’s made for us. For us Mother’s Day is a time to say a big thank you and for always being a guiding force in our lives.

Show your mom just how much you love and appreciate her, with an elegant and stunning bouquet of blooms which is sure to bring a smile to her face and she’ll know exactly how much you appreciate and love her. You only get one mother, cherish her and love her with everything you’ve got!

Give the gift of love. Flowers.
